Ho Chi Minh declares Vietnam independence from France (National Day).

On today's page I notice that you have Vietnam declaring independence
from France, which I don't think is quite the case. France tried to jump
back into control of Vietnam, but at the time of the declaration the
country had been controlled by Japan for five years.

In the declaration Ho Chi Minh says, "The truth is that we have wrested
our independence from the Japanese and not from the French."

The monsters at The Learning Kingdom said:
"The Democratic Republic of Vietnam was founded after revolutionary
leaders led by Ho Chi Minh declared Vietnam's independence from
Japan.  Vietnam had been a French-administered possession of Japan
since 1940.  The West did not recognize Vietnam's independence and
France resumed its previous position as colonizing power."
